In my experience cover-ups are easy 90% of the time and you're not limited to what you can choose to have to cover up an old tattoo. If you or someone you know has had a cover up and end up with an owl, a rose or something big and black, chances are your "artist" just gave you a default design that they could make work maybe because they have a limited creative arsenal.

Personally I find it easier just to treat a cover up like it's new skin. I always ask in some fashion, "what would you get if there was nothing there?" ... and of course then it's time to get to work and make it happen. The point is making people happy with their art, not to repeat the same mistake or even have them settle for what they could get VS. what they really want.
